EMT Program Registration

The EMT program is a 140-hour course designed to introduce participants to basic life support and pre-hospital emergency medical care. This program is considered to be entry-level for a career in emergency care and is based upon the 2009 EMS Education Standards for Emergency Medical Technicians. There is a clinical and field experience component to provide the student with exposure to the hospital emergency department and ambulance settings.

Program Information

The EMT program is a 140-hour course designed to introduce the participant’s to basic life support and pre-hospital emergency medical care. This program is considered to be entry-level for a career in emergency care and is based upon the 2009 EMS Education Standards for Emergency Medical Technician. There is a clinical and field experience component to provide the student with exposure to the hospital emergency department and ambulance settings.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements and the state practical examination, the participant will be eligible to apply for and take the National Registry cognitive examination. Once the national practical and written examinations have been completed, the participant may apply to the State of Missouri for licensure as an EMT. There are separate fees for these licensure examinations that are not included in the course fees.

Class meets every Wednesday for the first 7 weeks, then every Monday and Wednesday for the remainder of the program. Class time is 6-10 pm each night.

Admission Criteria:

  • At least 18 years of age to receive the State of Missouri EMT licensure.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening to complete clinical experiences.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will only apply if the course is cancelled. VA Student refunds will follow the VA pro-rata refund policy. See the policy and procedure manual.

Tuition and course fees paid by an applicant shall be refunded if the applicant admission is rejected by JCAD before enrollment. Course deposits and/or application fees are not refundable if the applicant admission is denied due to:

  • Failure of drug or alcohol screening
  • Failure of criminal background check

Refunds of tuition, course fees, and deposits are not available once a student is enrolled and the course has started.

Refunds of tuition, course fees, and deposits will not be given due to:

  • Dismissal from a course or education program due to inappropriate behavior, misconduct, excessive absences, or habitual tardiness.
  • Low grades or failure to achieve criteria for course completion or graduation.
